Works are making good progress at Worthing's landmark £34 million healthcare centre, with two tower cranes recently erected at the site.
Groundworks are progressing well, with excavation and foundations well underway. Concreting and waterproofing to the two cores (stairwell and lifts) is underway, with below ground drainage and service duct runs having commenced. Temporary accommodation at Liverpool Gardens is complete as is the new electrical substation. UK Power Networks have commenced their work including installation of plant, excavation and pulling new cables to supply the surrounding buildings.
Significant milestones ahead will be the completion of the electrical substation which allows the existing one to be decommissioned and demolished. The decant of Central Clinic to Liverpool Gardens will allow the old building to be demolished and the full site will then be available to the contractor.
The gbpartnerships manage team, working through local LIFTCo, West Sussex Estate Partnership, are project managing the development on behalf of Worthing Borough Council. Funded by Worthing Borough Council, the state-of-the-art Worthing Integrated Care Centre (WICC) will provide GP, mental health, community and dentistry services under one roof, as well as providing a pharmacy and additional services for families and young children.
The integrated care centre will see Coastal West Sussex CCG, Worthing Medical Group, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust services integrated into one NHS healthcare facility on the site of the council's former car park in Stoke Abbott Road. A multi-storey car park will also be built at the site.
